Alternative Fuels Data Center

The U.S. Department of Energy’s Alternative Fuels Data Center introduces alternative fuels and advanced vehicle technologies. It covers electricity, hydrogen, biodiesel, ethanol, natural gas, propane, renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuel. The site explains fuel sources, applications and the vehicles that can use them. Biodiesel and renewable diesel provide biomass-derived fuel options for diesel engines. Electricity powers battery electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles, and hydrogen can power fuel cell vehicles.

Users can also explore vehicle conversions and information on alternative fuel prices. A vehicle search tool and cost calculator help users compare vehicle options, costs and performance. Links to refuelling stations, case studies and U.S. laws and incentives provide further practical information.
