Hydrogen Infrastructure Presentation

This presentation is aimed at vocational school students with prior knowledge of hydrogen.

This resource was developed as part of the HyAcademy.eu project.

The resource begins by exploring the concept of hydrogen infrastructure and the three main pillars that support it: hydrogen production, transport and storage, and end-use applications. Different hydrogen production methods are introduced, including steam methane reforming and water electrolysis. Particular attention is given to electrolysis as a promising renewable pathway for producing clean hydrogen when powered by renewable electricity sources.

The document also examines the various methods used for hydrogen transport and storage, both of which are essential for enabling large-scale hydrogen deployment. It discusses transportation options such as pipelines, liquid hydrogen transport by trucks and ships, and the use of Liquid Organic Hydrogen Carriers (LOHCs). In addition, the resource presents different storage technologies, including compressed gas cylinders, liquid hydrogen storage, chemical storage using metal hydrides, and underground storage systems.

Finally, the resource introduces Hydrogen Refueling Stations (HRS), which are key infrastructures for supplying hydrogen-powered vehicles. It outlines the purpose of HRS systems and describes their main components, including storage tanks, compressors, precooling systems, and dispensers.

Overall, this resource serves as a foundational guide for learners seeking to understand the technologies and infrastructure necessary to support the growing hydrogen sector and the broader transition to sustainable energy systems.
