Levelised Cost of Hydrogen Calculator

New Levelised Cost of Hydrogen Calculator supports evidence-based planning across Europe

A new Levelised Cost of Hydrogen (LCOH) Calculator has been launched to support stakeholders in assessing the cost of producing hydrogen across Europe using low-temperature electrolysis. The interactive tool enables users to estimate hydrogen production costs for both alkaline and PEM electrolysers across the EU27, as well as Norway and the UK.

The calculator allows users to explore how different electricity sources influence hydrogen production costs, with options including wholesale electricity prices, solar PV, onshore wind and offshore wind. Users can either apply default input values provided by Hydrogen Europe or customise the parameters to reflect specific project assumptions and local conditions. Default values automatically adapt based on the selected country and electricity source, while user-defined values remain fixed unless manually updated.

All cost assumptions within the tool are aligned to a 2024 reference year for electrolyser capital expenditure and electricity source data. This ensures consistency and comparability of results across countries and scenarios, providing policymakers, researchers and industry stakeholders with a practical, transparent resource to support techno-economic analysis and strategic decision-making in the European hydrogen sector.
